Abstract:

Berberine is Isoquinoline alkaloids extracted from Coptis Root Extract (Chinese Goldthread Extract, Coptidis Rhizoma Extract)or Amur Cork-tree Bark extract (Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex Extract) or Berberis pliretii Schneid.

Berberine is a yellow crystal powder, no odour, extremely bitter, it can be soluble in hot water, and slightly soluble in water or ethanol. According to the solvent used in production, it can be reacted into Berberine hydrochloride and Berberine sulfate.

Function & Application

A natural broad-spectrum antibiotic inhabits pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and protozoa, for the treatment of many diseases.

It has antibacterial action on Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria, such as E. coli, pneumococcal, staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus, and salmonella typhi. Especially a strong antibacterial action on shigella dysenteriae, it also has some inhibitory effects on influenza virus, amoeba, leptospira and certain dermatophytes.
